Talking Books is an early years project which encourages parents and young children to bring stories to life through play and making activities.
In February- March 2018, we ran Talking Books for 4 weeks at Bygrove School to early years children and their parents.
Over the course of 4 sessions, Associate artists Tom Drayton and Hayley Konadu, delivered storytelling and theatre workshops for approximately 18 children and 10 adults. The sessions were aimed towards ESOL (English as a second language) and disabled children who needed a little extra support with literacy and to encourage their parents to support their children to continue learning at home.
In the Autumn/Winter of 2019 we will be running Talking Books in partnership with the Soho Family Centre. during the project the children will explore stories from all over the world, from travelling with peaches in Japan to learning from jackals in South Africa. The children will be encouraged to tell their own stories throughout the project, which will be captured as a performance for their parents. This project is being generously supported by Soho Estates.
